Report
Plan: find Morella’s portrait for Bentley’s date.
- Statues at the door raised two corpses there as undead. Marthe grabbed a cloak from the rack. Bentley tried to get James the Butler to distract them. Then they ran.
- They found the ballroom again by a new path. Along the way, Bentley found a potion of heroism in a statue’s mouth.
- When passing through the throne room, clusters of sparks floating in the air did something to Bentley, but they fled and noticed no effect.
- They went for the hookah to steal it, but when it stole a spell from Marthe upon first use and then she succeeded at a save on the second use, they left it. They found the attached secret room and Bentley avoided a bear-trap death. Marthe put her hands in the cloak. Then it enfurled her and bit her to death.
- Shortly thereafter, Emily’s other PC, Jennae the Cleric arrived.
- They found ruined musical instruments and took golden strings from the harp and collected sheet music from the floor.
- They found portraits in the lounge and took them without looking at them other than the Morella one. (They looked at the plaques instead.) The Morella one planned marriage to Bentley in Tours-en-Savoy.
Wandering
- Garden dome. Secret room found with shambly mound gardener who was placated with the offer of compost. They didn’t want to mess around here.
- Armor in the Round Gallery crumbled when touched. Bentley examined it, finding bags full of many coins. So many that they decided it was time to leave due to encumbrance.
Escape
- After considering trying to find the cave and leave by it, they decided they may not be able to find a way to safely get their treasure across the water. They decided to send Bentley down at the bridge, then throw the treasure down to him in bags. They explored in that direction and found their way to the bridge. Since no one else was a skilled climber, they quickly made their way through the castle to the grand entrance.
Referee Notes
- Emily was disappointed that they had to throw away experience due to the following rule:
Characters cannot advance more than one level in one session. Any additional XP that would take a character two or more levels above their current level are lost, leaving the character at 1 XP below the total for the next level.
- They randomly encountered undead ladies twice, and two NPCs whose names they did not get. Only one of those encounters seemed dangerous, but they talked their way out of it. They tried their best to interact only enough to move past NPCs. They were very focused on their objectives and seemed to regard encounters as dangers best avoided by proper behavior and attitude. That worked mostly due to reaction rolls, but also because that was exactly suitable in the instance in which a reaction roll result was
